Charoite looks like a rich marble, featuring white swirly strands and/or black patches. The color ranges from a lilac to a deep purple. Some charoite stones may have unique flame designs. This cabochon is named after the Charo river in Siberia, Russia. Charoite was discovered in 1976. This beautiful marble-like cabochon stone has been popular decoration in carvings, tiles, and inlay designs. It has been used in cabochons and bead jewelry. Charoite has a Mohs Hardness of 5.0 and a Specific Gravity of 2.5 to 2.8
