Praisolite "green amethyst" jewelry
Green Amethyst, which also goes by the names Vermarine, Green Quartz, Lime Citrine and its gemological name "Praisolite", is a form of quartz that almost never occurs naturally; it is therefore made by heat-treating a certain form of purple amethyst. Green Amethyst's gemological name "Praisolite" is derived from the Greek word "Prason" meaning leek, mostly due to its similar color to the vegetable.
This particular gemstone is believed to bridge the gap between the physical and spiritual aspects of life. It is also thought to strengthen the mind, increase will power and confidence, as well as attract success and prosperity. Green Amethyst, or praisolite is most popular for its light and beautiful lime green color but it also comes in shades of pale yellow and dark greens.
Green Amethyst can be a very confusing gemstone to buy. It is often traded and sold under a large variety of names and is sometimes sold as the gemstones tourmaline and peridot. It is also sometimes marketed as a "rare" gemstone, this is not true, there are large amounts of pale lavender quartz (heat treated pale lavender quartz is what makes green amethyst) so it should be relatively affordable.
Despite it usually affordable price, green amethyst is still mostly a collector's stone. This stone has, however, seen a large increase in commercial use during the last few years and has become a very popular for its beautiful light lime green color.
Since the green amethyst gemstone is a form of quartz, it is very durable and is able to be faceted into a beautiful design. Its durability and resiliency make it great for everyday use. Green amethyst, as with any gemstone that change color with heat treatment, are somewhat susceptible to color change when exposed to high temperatures and intense direct sunlight. Exposing the gemstone to either may cause an undesirable change in color; so make sure you are cautious.
