Ruby is a red variety of the corundum mineral. Sapphire, the other variety of corundum, includes all colors of corundum aside from red. The most preferred color by everyone is a deep blood red ruby with a slightly bluish hue. This type of ruby is known as "Burmese Ruby" or "Pigeon's Blood Ruby".
