For years and years, the ruby has been considered one of the most valuable gemstones on Earth. Ruby jewelry has gemstones faceted into many styles of cuts, although the brilliant and step cuts are the most preferred. Ruby stones displaying asterism are polished as cabochons. Synthetic rubies are often used as a substitute for natural rubies which are inexpensive.
